The Hoover Vacuum Cleaner story begins in 1907 when an inventor, Murray Spangler,  who worked as a janitor at night, had an asthma problem that was intensified when he swept dust.  He came up with an odd looking contraption that pulled away the dust from the air he breathed and he called it a “suction sweeper”.  It had enormous potential and he looked for a backer.  He found a financier who owned a leather goods manufacturing store, his name, W.
