The Hoover Vacuum Cleaner story begins in 1907 when an inventor, Murray Spangler, who worked as a janitor at night, had an asthma problem that was intensified when he swept dust. He came up with an odd looking contraption that pulled away the dust from the air he breathed and he called it a “suction sweeper”. It had enormous potential and he looked for a backer. He found a financier who owned a leather goods manufacturing store, his name, W. H. “Boss” Hoover. Hoover bought the patent from Spangler in 1908 and made Murray a partner. Together they assembled Hoover Suction Sweepers in a corner of the leather store and that, my friends, is the beginning of Hoover’s comprehensive line of products for general and special-purpose vacuuming. They have been around for a very long time and there is a reason for that, it is called “quality”.
